| Character Name: | Think of a
name for your character. The type of name you give your character
should depend on several factors, including their Race and their
Gender. Human Characters normally have Human names, Characters
belonging to other races have more unusual sounding names.
|
| Players Name: | I don't think you should need any help with this.
|
| Players Email Address: | Make sure
that you enter a valid Email Address and double check it before sending
the post in. If the address is not valid, then the CO will not be able
to respond to your application form.
|
| Position: | Think carefully about
the position you are applying for. Are you going to enjoy playing a
character in this position? Do you now at least a little about the
field of expertise you are putting your character into (for example, it
would be an idea if someone applying to be a Medicial Officer does know
a little bit about medicine). We don't require in depth knowledge, but
you should know enough to be able to write convincing posts about this
character's job onboard ship.
|
| Race: | The vast majority of the
crew should belong to a Federation member race (e.g. Human, Trill,
Betazoid, Vulcan etc...), though half-breeds are acceptable. The CO may
occasionally allow a non-Federatio member race to be a part of the crew
but you must think very carefully first. You will need to have a very
good reason why this character is a part of Starfleet (or onboard the
Vanquish at least if they are a Civilian). Also, the CO will not allow
many non-Federation races onboard so as not to unbalance the game too
much. As a guide, if you wish to play a non-Federation member race,
flick through the manifest and see if any one else is playing a member
of that race. If someone does, then the answer to you playing a
non-Federation race member will be a simple no. Even if there
isn't another member of that race onboard, the CO may still answer no
anyway if he feels their are too many non-Federation races onboard at
that current time. This goes for half-breeds belonging to
non-Federation races as well. If you want your application accepted as
it is, then please stick with Federation races.
|
| Age: | Your Age should reflect your
position. Bear in mind, most people don't start the Academy until the
age of 18 (NCO's can start younger at the age of 16, and Starfleet has
occasionally made an acception and allowed some people to start officer
training at an earlier age). The Academy takes four years to complete
for officer training and it then a person will normally spend a few
years at each rank before progressing to the next. Finally, your race
should also reflect your age, as some races (like Vulcans) live to a
longer age and so may not start to Academy until a much later stage.
|
| Gender: | There is not much I can
offer help on with this other than saying that in my experience, Males
play males best and females play females best. However, I don't mind
people playing members of the opposite sex to themselves as long as
they can demonstrate they can do so responsibly and thoughtfully.
|
| Place of Birth: | This is completely
upto you as to where your character is born. A point worth remembering
though is that in the 24th Century, not all Humans are born on Earth.
Many are born on Starships, Space Stations and Colonies as well (if not
more now than are born on Earth). This goes for other races in that not
all members of a race are born on their homeworld.
|
| Appearance: | The Appearance of your
character is also completely upto you. Not everyone though has super
model looks however and you should try and remember this. Additionally,
what race your character belongs too should be reflected in your
characters appearance.
|
| Personality: | Your characters
personality is completely upto you as well. However, please also bear
in mind that when writing in a PBeM that your character will be
interacting with others. A shy person is fine, but they will need to
come out of their shell a bit if they are to get involved with others
onboard ship. Likewise, an agressive character makes a good story
point, but is likely to cause tension amongst other characters and get
into lots of trouble with their higher ranking officers. Please try and
make it something that will not only be fun for you to write and play,
but will also be fun and interresting for other players to read and
interact with.
|
| History: | Your characters history
is also upto you. Bear in mind that the current year is 2379 when
writing your histories and some of the above notes about age and how
long officers spend at academy etc... This is a good place to put stuff
as well that may effect your character personnally later on in the
stories (ex-lovers, enemies, ships they served on, battles they fought
at etc...)
|
| Starfleet History: | Please check
the bios of characters in the manifest to see how this works. This
explains a characters Starfleet history in brief from the moment they
joined the Academy, right upto joining the Vanquish. This should be put
as a series of dates followed by their rank at the time and where they
were serving (note, Starfleet Officers may not have always served on a
ship, there are plenty of Starbases, outposts and installations that
they could also have worked at).
|
| Any Other Information about the character: |
Use this section wisely. No information you send here will be displayed
in your bio and this is mainly for anything you want to let the CO know
about but don't neccessarily want other characters to know until
perhaps later in the game.
|
| Any Previous RPG/PBeM Experience: |
Please include both on and offline roleplaying experiencing. If, like
the CO, you have more than you can remember roleplaying experience,
then it may be worth making a note of how long you have been doing each
type of Roleplay and an approximate amount of roleplays you have played
or run. However, please try and list the Roleplays at the very least
you have been involved with in the last year. (Note, the GM recognises the following types of Roleplay as counting here: PBeM (Play By Email) or Simm's: these use a list server (like Yahoo Groups) to create stories over the net. Chat Based: these are conducted online using chat rooms at specific points of the week where all people 'chat' in character. Forum: Simalar to PBeM but uses Forums to write the stories instead of an Email list server. Table-Top:
Not necessarily using a table, but run by having a group of people
together and talking through peoples actions and speech (often uses
dice to decide outcomes of actions). PBM (Play By Mail): Like PBeM, but run through Snail-Mail. LARP (Live Action RolePlay):
Where by a group of people come together to act out their characters
actions and words, kind of like improvised acting but with rules.) It
is also worth writing down here any writing experience you have (e.g.
been writing sci-fi short stories for x amount of years)
|
| Instant Messaging Information (ID's etc): |
It can be very handy if the CO can get hold of you to discuss matters
about your character and / or posts via Instant Messangers. Also, other
players may want to contact you and IM's come very much a useful tool
when you wish to write a Joint Post with another character. |
| Where Did you find out about Star Trek: Victory: |
Please credit where you heard about Star Trek: Victory from. This helps
the CO monitor what forms of promotion of the website are currently
successful. Also, if it is another player who refered you, then the CO
awards that player with a special Award in recognition of their efforts
in promoting the game. |
| Please write into the space below a sample post... |
This is a very important part of the application form. It allows the CO
to get a 'feel' of your writing style. It also shows a level of
commitment and dedication to being a part of the simm. Your application
will not even be considered unless this part is also filled in and
should be a minimum of 250 words. The scenerio is constantly updated on
the application form so that is appropriate to the current episode,
which means this entry can also be used as one of your first posts in
the game.
